Attic Ventilation in South Jersey

An attic needs to breathe. Blocked soffits or the wrong mix of vents trap heat in summer and moisture in winter. We check the whole system and fix what's off.

Is this you?

Signs your attic isn't breathing

A very hot attic in summer

Trapped heat bakes the rooms below and wears on the roof.

Frost or damp wood in winter

Moisture condenses on the underside of the roof when air can't move.

Musty smell or dark stains

Stains on the roof sheathing can point to long-term moisture.

Ice dams on the roof edge

Heat escaping into the attic melts snow that refreezes at the eaves.

The process

How we fix attic ventilation

  1. 01

    Check intake and exhaust

We look at the soffit vents and the ridge, roof and gable vents together.

  2. 02

    Clear the soffits

Blocked soffits are opened up and baffles keep insulation from covering them again.

  3. 03

    Balance the system

Intake and exhaust are adjusted so air moves through the attic the way it should.

  4. 04

    Vent fans outside

Bathroom fans that dump moist air into the attic are routed to the outside.

The difference

Why ventilation matters

  • Protects the roof deck and shingles
  • Keeps moisture and mold out of the attic
  • Helps insulation stay dry and work as rated
  • Cooler attic and upstairs in summer

Questions

Attic Ventilation: common questions

Do I need more vents?

Not always. More vents don't help if intake and exhaust are out of balance. We check both before recommending anything.

Why does my bathroom fan matter?

A bath fan that vents into the attic dumps moist air right onto the insulation and roof deck. It should vent outside.

Can ventilation be fixed at the same time as insulation?

Yes, and it's the best time. Baffles and soffit fixes go in right before new insulation.

How much does it cost?

It depends on what's off and how much needs to change. After the free inspection you get a written price before any work starts.
