Not always. If it is clean, dry and just thin, we can air seal and add new insulation on top. If it is compressed, wet, moldy, or full of droppings and debris, it should come out first, because new insulation over a dirty attic traps the problem and never performs as rated.

Insulation slows heat moving through it, but it does not stop air. Gaps around lights, pipes, wiring, chimneys and the attic hatch let warm and cool air leak straight through. Sealing those gaps first is usually where the biggest comfort and energy gains come from.

Most attic jobs take one to two days. Removal, air sealing and new insulation on a larger home can run longer. We give you the schedule in writing with your price.
